UEBELMANNIA PECTINIFERA has been organized by botanists into some sub species. One of them is UEBELMANNIA PECTINIFERA SSP PECTINIFERA and its varieties MULTICOSTATA and PSEUDOPECTINIFERA.
The plants grow east of the town DIAMANTINA, MINAS GERAIS, BRASIL, in the hills north of the RIO JEQUITINHONHA. They grow in and on rocks around 650 m above sea level. BROMELIACEAE, ORCHIDACEAE, VELLOZIACEAE and palms are other plants to be found in its habitats.
The plants reach a height of about 80 cm and a diameter of nearly 20 cm. They grow in cracks and crevices of the rocks. These are filled with leaves, rotten plant parts and humus.
My plant is grafted on an ECHINOPSIS SPEC. which has been sunk into the ground. It is about 15 years old. Because of the grafting the culture is that of an ECHINOPSIS. I used my normal succulent substrate and added some peat. To mimic the habitat of other UEBELMANNIA i have covered the substrate with quarz rubble.
I cultivate it like all UEBELMANNIA. The culture is the same as for ARROJADOA, BUININGIA, DISCOCACTUS, MELOCACTUS and PILOSOCEREUS.
