SOWING FEROCACTUS DIGUETII 2013

I have sown these seeds in March 2013. The first ones germinated after 5 days and keep going on germinating.
As you may see they grow really fast in their first days. As substrate i used lava.

  1. This is awesome. I never thought to use jars. Here I've been looking for shallow trays with clear tops.
Thanks for the idea. Also slightly damp lava? and what do you do to reduce rot? Is that red, cinnamon as a fungicide?

  2. The method I use is well known - only under the "old ones" - as the FLEISCHER METHOD. I will describe it in the near future because I believe it to be the very best method ever. A grower in czechoslovakia created it. Some growers here in Austria, Germany and Switzerland use plastic bags with plastic pods with seeds within, close them and "hang em up" inside their greenhouse. A good example of this can be seen on WWW.CHIEMGAU-KAKTUS.DE

I "cook" the glass, the rubber, the glass cover and the substrate inside this. A little bit of water and fertilizer inside should be added. I cook "it" around 1 hour.

The seeds are "powdered" with a fungicide - mine is called AATIRAM and is here very well known. I allways would use a powder never a liquid - to uncomfortable and to dangerous.

After cooling down of the glass at hand temperature I sow the seeds and close the cover.
